"Seeing her out there on the field was like watching a kid in a candy store."
SALINA — Jessie Kynaston scored two first half goals and assisted on the third as the McPherson girls soccer team beat Salina Central Thursday 5-1 in their final regular season tune-up before the postseason. Alayna Wallace scored a goal and assisted on three others while Rylee Schrader added two second half goals just five minutes a part.
"There were a lot of positives to take from tonight's game," said Chris Adrian, McPherson coach. "We executed really well on our set plays, which resulted in three of our goals. Salina played physical but our girls kept their composure really well even when fouls were not being called. It was a good experience for them going into postseason play."
Riley Hett had another stellar performance in goal for the Pups giving up just one goal while tallying a save. Meghan Smith finished in the net and had one save as well. The Bullpups offense had 13 shots on goal.
"Jessie Kynaston again had an amazing performance; she was constantly being held and kicked but it fired her up more than anything and motivated her to play better," Adrian said. "Rylee Schrader also deserves a shoutout after scoring two goals within five minutes. She reads the game well and has the ability to be in the right place at the right time. The highlight of the game had to be the return of Anna Schwindt, who returned after having surgery. Seeing her out there on the field was like watching a kid in a candy store."
The Mac JV team won 3-0. Kelsey Wilson had a goal and an assist, while Hannah Dossett scored two goals, assisted by Daphne Carrillo and Wilson. Anna Nason also picked up an assist in the victory. The JV team finished the season 12-0-1, scoring 60 goals and giving up just one. It has now been two and a half seasons since the last Pups JV loss.
"Coach Natalie Adrian and Coach Eric Burghart do an amazing job with that bunch and deserve a lot of credit," said (Chris)Adrian. "Now the real fun begins and it looks like we may be in a position where if we win, we will continue to host post-season at home until the state semi-final."
