Gillespie & Brummett Dentall office is offering a $500 scholarship to a student they choose who is planning on attending Hutchinson Community College.

HUTCHINSON — A Hutchinson dental office is paying it forward in McPherson County by offering students a $500 scholarship.

"My wife, kids, and I have been blessed by the Hutchinson, Buhler, and surrounding communities during our first year here. As a thank you, we wanted to do something to give back to the community," Dr. Travis Gillespie said.

Gillespie & Brummett Dental is awarding the scholarship on July 1.

"As our oldest daughter graduates kindergarten this week, we decided education and local support were priorities to us," Gillespie said. "With these values in mind, we will offer a scholarship to a local graduating senior who will be attending Hutchinson Community College."

The winner will be evaluated in a variety of categories including GPA, college admission test scores, school and community involvement and an essay. The essay topic is "How will you use your talents and your smile to positively impact your community?" It is limited to no more than 300 words and must be in a word document, double spaced with the name of the student at the top of the essay.

"Carefully proof your essay and know that well-done short essays are admired," Gillespie said.
