Moundridge hosts cross-county rival Lindsborg Thursday in doubleheader action starting at 6 p.m. at the Moundridge Recreation fields.

MOUNDRIDGE — The Moundridge junior Babe Ruth baseball team hosted Halstead on Wednesday and came away with a

doubleheader split, winning game one 12-11 and dropping the nightcap 15-8. The Wildcats record now stands at 6-4.

Game one was tied after two innings before Moundridge scored nine runs in the bottom of the third and held on as Halstead answered with eight runs in the top of the fourth but fell one run short. The top five batters in the Moundridge order each got one hit in game one, with Ethan Brandewiede breaking the mold with two RBIs, while the other four each had one. Collin Kohl, Carson Orpin and Corbin Unruh scored two runs apiece.

Unruh picked up the win on the mound, starting the game and going three innings giving up three hits, three runs, six walks and striking out four. Joseph Schrag and Kohl closed things out in relief in the fourth inning. The game was halted after four on time limit.

In game two the scored was also tied, this time after three innings at nine runs each. Halstead then scored three runs in each of their next two innings to pull away and win the game. Only Colby McKay and Ian Jenkins managed hits for the Wildcats in game two but Halstead pitchers yielded 11 walks and a hit batsman to allow Moundridge to score nine.

Cross Lintecum started game two on the hill for Moundridge, yielding eight runs on three hits with four walks and a strikeout. Brandewiede and Kohl followed, allowing seven runs on three hits with four walks and four strikeouts combined.
