With summer comes fresh goods to those who enjoy home grown goods and residents of McPherson County have several options for purchasing locally grown foods.
The McPherson County Farmers Market has served the area for more than 20 years. The market is sponsored by the McPherson County K-State Research and Extension office.
The farmers market is open from 7:30 a.m. to noon on Saturdays through October at the 4-H fairgrounds, 600 W. Woodside St. in McPherson.
The goal of the market is to make available locally raised fresh produce and other goods to county residents, and provide a direct retail market for farmers and other vendors.
Vendors from McPherson County and neighboring counties are eligible to participate and should be at the market site by 7 a.m. to set up. Tables are usually available on site. Cost is $10 for the first table and $5 for a second.
Offerings usually include broccoli, lettuce, cabbage, potatoes, strawberries, spinach, rhubarb, sweet onions and sugar peas. Other goods like baked items, eggs, frozen meats, jams and jellies and plants will be available as well. The market is also a great place to meet neighbors and make new acquaintances.
