KANSAS CITY — It was not the start former McPherson High School graduate Jacob Lackey wanted at the 107th Kansas State Men’s Amateur Golf Tournament on Tuesday. With the top 64 advancing to match play, Lackey has some ground to make up on Wednesday if he is to advance.

After shooting an 80 on Tuesday, which put him 10 over for the day, Lackey sits five strokes back of a top 64 spot. Lackey advanced to match play last season at this tournament, but lost in the first round to 2015 champion Sam Stevens of Wichita.

Lackey finished Tuesday with one birdie, seven bogeys, and two double bogeys. He saved par on eight of his holes.

Lackey tees off at 1:20 p.m. on Wednesday at The Kansas City Country Club in Mission Hills, Kansas.
