EL DORADO — Winners of three matches in a row, the short-handed McPherson Aqua Pups traveled to El Dorado on Saturday to compete in the league meet. Lacking quantity, the Aqua Pups still pumped out enough quality swimmers to take fifth out of eight teams.

McPherson head coach Kyle Banman described the regular season finale as “bittersweet,” because he knows his team could have competed for a league championship with more swimmers.

“I really wish we could have had more attend, but for the ones who did it was a great way to cap off the regular season,” Banman said. “We were far from full strength, and I would have loved to have seen what we were truly capable of, but it was what it was, and I was proud of the way the kids who went swam.”

The Aqua Pups will travel to Wichita this weekend for districts, and those who qualify in districts will advance to Columbia, Missouri for the Missouri Valley Championships the week after. Here are Saturday’s results according to Banman.
