The award recognizes exceptional statistical work and research in the sport of track and field.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Carol Swenson of McPherson was recently recognized as the 2017 recipient of the Don H. Potts FAST Award for statistical work in track and field at a gathering of the Track and Field Writers of America(TAFWA) held in conjunction with the USATF National Track & Field Championships in Sacramento, California.  The award was presented by Jack Shepherd, editor of High School Track, the foremost national annual publication of U.S. high school track and field performances. 

Presented annually since 1993 by the Federation of American Statisticians of Track (FAST) chapter of TAFWA, the Potts Award recognizes exceptional statistical work and research in the sport of track and field.  The award is named in honor of Dr. Don H. Potts, one of the world’s foremost track and field statisticians and historians, founding member of FAST and ATFS, and the award’s first recipient, who passed away in 2001. The list of past honorees includes the leading statisticians in the sport of American track and field.
