For the 11th year in a row the McPherson High School football team will be represented in the Kansas Shrine Bowl football game.

EL DORADO — For the 11th year in a row the McPherson High School football team will be represented in the Kansas Shrine Bowl football game as Jack Reifschneider and Jared Ruth have been selected to play by West squad Head Coach Marc Marinelli of Goddard Eisenhower High School. The 2017 Kansas Shrine Bowl will be played on July 29 at Butler Community College in El Dorado.

Neither player made the original selection to the 44th edition of the Shrine Bowl but were tapped by Marinelli to fill roster vacancies left by players who had to withdraw from the game. Both consider it an honor to be chosen to join the West team and carry the Bullpups banner into the game.

"I found out because Coach Pav called me and that kind of just made my day, made my summer pretty much and I have been looking forward to it ever since," said Reifschneider. "I am most looking forward to meeting new guys and meeting the Shriner's Hospital kids and just a great experience. I've heard you really learn to see the game in a different perspective after the Shrine Bowl."

Reifschneider will be an all-purpose option for Marinelli with his ability to play defensive back and receiver, as well as, return punts and kickoffs.

Ruth, who is headed to Ft. Hays State in August to continue his football career, was selected to fill a vacancy on the offensive line after being watched on film by the West coaching staff.

"It feels pretty good to get the opportunity to play in the Shrine Bowl," Ruth said. "I found out a couple of days ago. They called me in the morning and said someone dropped out and the O-line coach for the West team watched my film and wanted me to be on his team. I'm looking forward interacting with all these other players from different schools, getting to know each other and playing together."

Bullpups head football coach Jace Pavlovich, entering his third year at the helm, will be one of many McPherson fans headed down to El Dorado to watch his guys play. According the Pavlovich, a group of Pups faithful will head down after the football golf tournament fundraiser that takes place the morning of the game at the Turkey Creek Golf Course.

"It's the 11th year in a row McPherson will be represented in the game," said Pavlovich. "I am excited for our players and for our program and think it is a great thing for our entire community."

The Kansas Shrine Bowl is a non-profit charity raising funds and awareness for the Shriners Hospital for Children. Since its inception in 1974 it has raised over $2.5 million dollars.

The game is being played at BG Products Sports Complex on the campus of Butler Community College in El Dorado. Gates open at 5 p.m., pregame begins at 6 p.m. with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
