The battle of Kansas' best took place in round 2.

DODGE CITY — McPherson's Jacob Lackey defeated Quentin Shaw 2 and 1 in the first round of match play Thursday at the 2017 Junior Match Play Championship at Mariah Hills Golf Course in Dodge City. The win set up a head-to-head match for the No. 1 seed Lackey against on the No. 8 seed Zach Sokolosky, the 2017 Kansas 5A individual state champion.

The round two match-up was all it was billed to be with Sokolosky prevailing 2 up. Sokolosky moved to the semifinal round where he will face No. 13 Gentry Scheve. The other semifinal pairing will pit the No. 2 seed Taylor Larsen against No. 11 Sion Audrain in round three on Friday morning. Lackey will play in the consolation bracket against the No. 12 seed Cole Elmore. Tee time is set for 8:06 a.m. Friday morning as well.

Winners in each bracket will advance to round four Friday afternoon, with the consolation matches teeing off first, followed by the match play championship final pairing.
