This year marked the 59th annual reunion for the descendants of three Ledell families and their relatives.

On July 23, the Ledell family reunion was held at Trinity Lutheran Church, Fellowship Hall, McPherson, with the Elva (Ledell) and Virgel Paulseen families serving as hosts to the potluck dinner. Eighty-four were in attendance.

The presentation highlighted Johanna Nilsdotter, the wife of one of the Ledell boys and the mother of twelve children, and her brother, Anders Nilsson, also known as Andrew Nelson.

The two, ages 14 and 16, embarked on their voyage from Sweden to North America in April 1892. Ray Brady, a grandson of Andrew, researched their journey that included most probably voyages on four ships and trips on five railroads before arriving in McPherson on May 24, 1892. Their destination was the home of John Olson, their uncle. One of John’s great grandsons, Durbin Seidel of Fort Collins, Colorado, was in attendance.

President Ron Hazelton conducted the news gathering session. Special recognition was given to the Colorado contingency, who traveled the farthest; Warren Johnson, the oldest at age 84; and Wyatt Hazelton, the youngest at two months’ old.

Bertil Ledell will serve as president in 2018 and Don Blankenship was elected vice-president. Others contributing are Rose Marie Wallen and Jane Ledell as those that chronicle memories through scrapbooks; Sharon Ledell and Janet Monson shared duties of historian and secretary; and Judy Ledell served as videographer.

The next reunion will be July 22, 2018 at Trinity Lutheran Church, McPherson.
