Cheyenne Derksen Schroeder has been named managing editor of the McPherson Sentinel.

Steve Curd, senior group publisher for GateHouse Media in Kansas, named Schroeder to the new position, effective Monday. Schroeder, 23, replaces Teri Hansen, who is leaving to take a job with the Kansas Department of Health and Environment. Hansen had been the Sentinel’s managing editor since March 2015.

Schroeder joined the Sentinel as a reporter in June 2015, after graduating from Tabor College with a dual major in English and religious studies.

“The McPherson community has been so kind and welcoming to me over the past two years,” Schroeder said. “I’m looking forward to serving the community in a new capacity.”

A singer and violinist, Schroeder has appeared in community productions of the musicals “State Fair” and “Fiddler on the Roof” at the McPherson Opera House. She and her husband Ross live in Hillsboro with a small cat and a large German Shepherd.
