VFW Auxiliary met Aug. 14
The VFW Auxiliary met Aug. 14 at the Post Home with a round table meeting. Membership cards were checked for eligibility and all were found eligible.
President Cheryl Christiansen opened the meeting according to the ritual. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. Treasurer’s report was given and will be filed subject to audit. Bills were read for approval of trustees.
The auxiliary voted to donate $25 to the School Supply Train. The Covered Dish Dinner on Sept. 28 will have a theme of “Come to the Picnic” with sloppy joes as the provided meat, we are asking members to bring their favorite picnic dish for the dinner. September is traditionally Endowment Scholarship month and Auxiliaries are asked to have a fund raiser to support this scholarship. It was voted on that with the profits of the meal we would donate $100 to the endowment program.
Everyone was reminded that the 5th District School of Instruction meeting would be Aug. 20 in Hutchinson. The Auxiliary meeting will be held at the American Legion building. All members are invited to attend.
Our membership dues collection this year began again July 1. We again are having the “Early Bird Drawing” for members who pay their dues by Sept. 30. Please send your $20 dues to Jeanette Cox, treasurer, 1504 Manchester St, McPherson, KS 67460.
Meeting was closed according to ritual with the next meeting on Sept. 11, at 7 p.m. at the Post Home. A Patriots Day observance will be held.
Live Wires-Empire Best 4-H met Aug. 20
The Live Wires-Empire Best 4-H club held its August meeting/pool party at the Hillsboro City Pool on Aug 20. The meeting was called to order by Vice President Cash Toews. Roll Call was answered by “What is your favorite sport.”
Nine members, two leaders and six guests were present at the meeting.
Sage Toews gave the treasurer’s report and also gave a detailed report over the McPherson County Fair concessions that the club participated in.
Isom Marston stated that he sent the report of the last meeting to the paper and would also be submitting today’s meeting.
Camden Kruse discussed the happenings of their council meeting last month. 4-H Record books are due Oct. 2 to the extension office. The club voted on their nomination for McPherson County 4-H Family of the Year.
Announcements were then read and the meeting was adjourned by repeating the club’s motto, “To Make the Best Better.”
Host families were the Marston’s and Toews, while all other families bought a side dish for the supper.
