The Bulldogs return to the Sport Center for their home-opener on Wednesday.

The McPherson Bulldogs volleyball team opened up their season on the road in Missouri over the weekend and came away with a split to get the 2017 campaign underway. The Bulldogs defeated Stephens College on Saturday, sweeping them 25-22, 25-19, and 25-20 for the 3-0 victory, then lost to Central Methodist University Sunday 3-1 (25-22, 23-25, 25-15, 25-20).

Lexi Kite led Mac against Stephens with 10 kills and 16 digs for the double-double, adding three blocks and a pair of aces. Leia Seiler added 10 digs and two digs, while Devrie Sombers had eight kills and three digs. Kaitlyn Heinis narrowly missed a double-double with 15 assists and nine digs and Morgan Little added 13 assists and five digs.

On Sunday against CMU Lexi Kite once again posted a double-double, though finals stats are being reviewed and not available at press time. The Bulldogs closed the score to 24-22 in set one before losing on the next serve. In set two, Mac led 22-13 before giving up 10 of the next 12 points before securing the second set victory. Set three was all CMU before McPherson battled back in set four, at one time taking the lead 19-18. But the Eagles scored seven of the final eight points to take the set and match victory.

The Bulldogs return to the Sport Center for their home-opener on Wednesday as they also begin their Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference schedule against Sterling College. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
