The McPherson High School volleyball team thrilled the home crowd Tuesday night as they beat Wellington 25-16, 25-11 and Mulvane 25-9, 25-15. The wins push Mac's record to 6-2 on the season.
Elle Barrett led the way for McPherson with 19 kills and nine digs. Andrea Sweat and Cassie Cooks added seven kills apiece, with Sweat getting five blocks and Cooks picking up three. Jaycee Burghart was the assists leader with 37, holding her average at 18.5 assists per match in 8 outings this year. Michaela Bowers was the digs leader with 14, while Bailea Crist added eight.
"I think we came out a little flat against Wellington for sure," said Coach Christy Doile. "It took us a while to get into a rhythm. I think they were excited, there were more people here in the second match. The environment just itself was a little more exciting than the first set. We kind of have some things we need to work on so I am looking forward to just focusing on those couple things and taking a bit of a breath."
The Bullpups next match is a week away as they travel to Andale High School Tuesday for a triangular with Andale and Winfield. First serve is slated for 5 p.m.
