The MCC Flatlander Bicycle Ride, a benefit for Mennonite Central Committee, will be Sept. 16, starting at 8 a.m. at the MCC Center in North Newton.

The Flatlander is designed to provide an enjoyable experience for people at all fitness levels. Three routes of approximately 35, 45, and 65 miles are planned.

In addition, there will be a family ride of 8-16 miles, with transport back to the MCC center for anyone choosing a shorter distance.

To make the experience more enjoyable, you can indulge guilt-free in homemade cookies at sag stops along the way.

The Flatlander’s goal is to raise $8,000 to support the construction of Diversion Based Irrigation Systems, installed by MCC partner Institute of Social Action and Research Activities.

All routes will start from the MCC Center, off Highway K15 near 30th Street in North Newton. Registration will be from 7 to 8 a.m. with a riders' meeting at 8 a.m. Preregister by Sept. 2 to be guaranteed a ride shirt.
