Madison Schmidt defeats teammate Cheyenne Williams in finals to finish first.

The McPherson High School junior varsity tennis team finished third place out of six teams at Salina Central Tuesday. Mac finished with 48 points, nine back of first place Salina Central and seven behind Manhattan, who finished second.

In singles play, Madison Schmidt went 4-0 to finish in first place. Cheyenne Williams was 3-1 and losing only to teammate Schmidt, finishing second while Jensen Mierkiewicz was 1-3 to finish 10th. The doubles team of Jacie Myers and Caitlin Faulk went 2-2 on the day to take seventh place.

"We switched the line up around a little from previous meets and had a positive outcome for the most part," said McPherson coach Noah Lindfors. "Cheyenne and Madison played very well today, finishing first and second and playing a great match against each other in the finals. The other two entries ended the day with one win. I feel after switching some players around, they and we coaches learned more about what our strongest line up should be."

Salina South finished in fourth place with 46 points, Junction City was fifth with 24 and Sacred Heart finished sixth with 15 points.
