Doubles team finishes in first place with tremendous comeback!

Led by the doubles team of Jensen Mierkiewicz and Caitlin Faulk, the McPherson High School junior varsity tennis team finished sixth that the Derby JV Invitational Tuesday. Mierkiewicz and Faulk went 4-0 and to finish in first place in doubles play.

Jacie Myers was the only other Mac player entered. She finished in sixth place in singles play. The other slot for singles and doubles was not filled by the Bullpups.

"For one of our windiest days with over 20 mph wind we showed a lot of grit today," Mac coach Tyler Brown said. "With those kind of conditions you have to just outlast your opponent and keep the ball in play limiting your errors to a minimum. Jensen and Caitlin were the highlight of the day scoring maximum points for the team and having one of the best comebacks of the year. They were down 2-5 in the championship and came all the way back to win 6-5 (2) in a tiebreaker. They showed tremendous fight. Even fought off a match point by the other team."

Campus High School's JV won the tournament, scoring 24 points, followed by Maize South with 19. Wichita East came in third at 16 points with Derby black finishing fourth and Valley Center taking fifth. Derby white and Newton finished behind the Pups.
