WICHITA — The McPherson High School tennis team finished in the third place in the AVCTL Division III/IV league meet Monday at Wichita Collegiate High School. The Bullpups finished with 49 points to finish behind league champion Wichita Collegiate, who finished at 68 points and Wellington, who finished second with 53 points.
In singles' play CeAnna Allen finished the day 2-1 to secure fifth place while Rachel Carlson was 1-2, finishing in fourth, having won her opening-round match.
In doubles action the team of Maisie Edmonson and Taylor Bruch went 2-1 to finish in second place, losing to Geoffrey and Conrad of Collegiate in the finals 6-3, 6-4. Ashley Achilles and Cheyann Williams teamed to finish in third place at 2-1, losing only to Lair and Lair of Collegiate in the semifinals.
"I felt like today was a solid day and it truly got us ready for regionals," said McPherson tennis coach Tyler Brown. "Our league has so many great teams don't be surprised when a few of them take home some team hardware at state. I felt all our girls got better today and we will be ready for Friday and Saturday in Lindsborg."
Lindsborg is where the Pups will next compete as the play the regionals at Smoky Valley High School Friday and Saturday, with action getting underway each day at 10 a.m. McPherson will be joined in regional play by Abilene, Buhler, Chapman, Clay Center Community, Concordia, Hays, Larned, Nickerson and Smoky Valley.
