Defeating previously undefeated Rose Hill last Tuesday landed the McPherson High School volleyball team the Great Plains Federal Credit Union Team of the Week award, presented by the McPherson Sentinel. The volleyball team will be in the running for the Fall Sports Team of the Year award at the conclusion of the fall season.
The Bullpups needed three sets to down the defending state champions Tuesday night in a triangular at Clearwater. The Rockets now have a taste for defeat after a 25-13, 18-25, 25-20 win by the Bullpups.
McPherson High head coach Christy Doile has her team focused on the schedule ahead, and ready to build off last Tuesday’s win.
“We tried to enjoy the win for a day or two, but now we’ve moved on,” Doile said. “We can use the win as a confidence booster, but that win doesn’t get us to the state tournament.”
The Bullpups are now an impressive 32-5 on the season, and currently ranked No. 3 in 4A behind Louisburg and Rose Hill. The Bullpups host Buhler and El Dorado this Tuesday at the Roundhouse. With a pair of clean victories over AVCTL DIII foes, the Bullpups could rise in the rankings heading into regionals in Ulysses on Saturday.
“The win over Rose Hill is one those moments they will probably remember forever,” Doile said. “I was excited for my team to get to experience that feeling of beating a team that hadn’t lost for quite a while.”
The Bullpups are back in action for the first time since the Rose Hill win Tuesday at home. The Bullpups face El Dorado at 5 p.m. and Buhler at 7 p.m.
