TOPEKA -- The McPherson Aqua Pups did not have their usual numbers, but three swimmers did make the long trip to compete in the IMX Challenge in Topeka on Saturday.
Rachel Fischer had the busiest day of the three, competing in seven different events in the 8-and-under group, where she was top-five in all of them. Fischer took first in the 25 backstroke, 50 breaststroke, and the 100 breaststroke.
Also in action for the Aqua Pups, Olivia Smolik cut over 10 seconds off her 100 backstroke; she also competed in the 100 breaststroke in the 10-and-under group.
Rhys Vanderhoof represented the Aqua Pups on the boy’s side, racing in the 200 freestyle, the 200 backstroke, and 200 breaststroke in the 13-14 group. Vanderhoof cut 3.95 seconds off his 200 breaststroke time while qualifying for districts in the 200 breaststroke.
The Aqua Pups will be back on Nov. 4 and 5 in Wichita.
