Two McPherson High School wrestlers are proving they are ready for the start of the season.
Mya Kretzer and Scott Radke were in action over the weekend at different tournaments, but both McPherson wrestlers represented their town and state at a high level.
Kretzer, competing in the Super32 Wrestling Tournament in Greensboro, North Carolina, went 4-1 for third place in the 115lb division. Kretzer competed against wrestlers from Texas, New Hampshire, Ohio, and New York.
“[Mya] continues to perform very well at the national level against the best girls in the United States,” McPherson head coach Doug Kretzer said.
Radke, competing at the USA Wrestling Preseason National Tournament in Cedar Falls, Iowa, had an extremely busy tournament, going 6-1 for third place in the 152lb division. Radke was one of 124 wrestlers competing in the tournament, facing competition from Texas, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Illinois.
“This is one of the marquee preseason tournaments in the nation and Scott made a serious statement about his intentions for the upcoming season,” Kretzer said. “He’s worked his tail off this summer and he saw the payoff for the work last weekend.”
The McPherson High wrestling team begins practice on Nov. 13. The Bullpups are first in action on Nov. 30 in a dual at Rose Hill.
