WAMEGO — The Smoky Valley High School boy’s cross country team finished sixth at the 4A State Cross Country Meet on Saturday in Wamego.

Junior Josh Peterson was the lone Viking to medal, finishing in 17th place with a time of 17:08. Freshman Ryan Heline nearly medaled for the Vikings as well, finishing in 26th place with a time of 17.24.

The Vikings qualified their entire team for state. Senior Zach Lott (50th, 17:58), freshman Ty Miller (71st, 18:28), freshman Stephen Peterson (72nd, 18:32), sophomore Logan Bodenheimer (84th, 18:50), and senior Carter Couchman (87th, 18:55) competed for the Vikings.

The Vikings bring back a good mixture of experience and youth next season, and should once again be competitive in cross country.
