Matt 43-17

Gallagher 38-22

The College Football Playoff rankings were released for the first time this season, with four teams in the Big 12 in the top 15. Not bad for a supposedly “weak conference.” Last week was a big one for the folks in Ames, Iowa as the Cyclones now control their own destiny in the Big 12. TCU, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma State are all within striking distance, as the Big 12 is a free-for-all at the moment. There are some big-time match ups in the conference this week, headlined by Baylor at Kansas. . . or Oklahoma at Oklahoma State, whichever excites you more. Gallagher gained two games on Matt last week, and there’s a potential for more as they disagreed on three of the six games this week. Matt still maintains a five-game lead with four weeks left in the regular season.

Baylor at Kansas

Gallagher- You know both teams will get fired up for this one. The two jokes of the conference battle it out for the Big 12 basement. I’ll take the team that’s actually been competitive in conference play. 38-28 Baylor

Matt- Wow, somebody has to win, right? I am going to go with the home team. 27-24 KU

Kansas State at Texas Tech

This is a big game for both teams. KSU and TTU are both 4-4 with difficult schedules the rest of the way. A win here would go a long way in terms of bowl eligibility. If Jesse Ertz was healthy, I would go with KSU. However, I expect Hays native Alex Delton to start, so I’m going with Tech. 44-31 TTU

Matt- I know Wildcats fans don’t like to hear it but this is not a good team this year. On the road against a high-powered offense? I will go with the home team again. 52-31 TTU

No. 15 Iowa State at West Virginia

Gallagher- I’m sorry, I just can’t picture a world where Iowa State wins the Big 12. There is no denying Iowa State is one of the best teams in the conference, but eventually they’ll return back to earth. Right? Right?? 31-28 WVU

Matt- Iowa State has proven they’re for real. If they want to stay that way this is a must win game. Morgantown is a tough place to win. 35-31 ISU

No. 5 Oklahoma at No. 11 Oklahoma State

Gallagher- Oklahoma almost always wins this game. As an Oklahoma State fan, there’s no reason for me to believe the Sooners won’t win again this year. But I’m still not going to pick OU. Go Pokes! 52-45 OSU

Matt-Every time I have picked against either of these teams they’ve won. Now I have to pick against one of them again. I think this is the year for the Cowboys. Pokes win Bedlam! 42-38 OSU

Texas at No. 8 TCU

Gallagher- Two of the best defenses in the conference go head to head in this one. Texas is coming off a bye week (well, they played Baylor), while TCU is coming off a hard-fought loss at Iowa State. That could bode well for Texas, but only if TCU is still hungover from last week, which I don’t think Gary Patterson will allow. The Frogs are well coached and still have a lot to play for in terms of a Big 12 championship and even the playoffs. Gallagher-27-10 TCU

Matt- TCU will rebound at home against Texas or they will fade the rest of the way. 35-24 TCU

No. 13 Virginia Tech at No. 10 Miami

Gallagher- Miami has been flirting with perfection ever since the ACC schedule begin. While still undefeated, Miami has not been impressive in its last four wins, all against unranked opponents, all within seven points. Virginia Tech has at least played some decent competition, so I’ll take the Hokies in an “upset.” 27-24 VT

Matt- I am a Mark Richt fan, since his days as OC at Florida State. There is a Hurricane warning in Florida and the Hokies will need to find shelter. 27-20 UM
