If you and your family and friends want to see twinkling Christmas lights, but aren't sure where to go — or how you will all fit into one car — the McPherson Convention and Visitors Bureau can help you check that item off your holiday wish list.
McPherson Holiday Light Trolley Tours will once again be offered this year and reserved spots fill up quickly. The tours will begin at 6, 7 and 8 p.m. on Dec. 14, 15, 16, 17, 21 and 22.
Putting together the route for the tour, which has to stay within McPherson city limits, takes research and planning.
"My staff and I, right after Thanksgiving, we'll drive around and try to find areas with a lot of lights," said McPherson Convention and Visitors Bureau Director Joni Regnier.
A map of homes that display exceptional holiday spirit is created for the driver of the CVB trolley to follow.
"We kind of go all over McPherson," Regnier said. "Each night is just a little different."
Yards filled with inflatable decorations, rooftop displays of Santa Claus with his reindeer and houses strung with colorful lights that flicker on and off in time with accompanying Christmas music could become part of this year's holiday light tour.
Sporting a Christmas wreath on its front, the CVB trolley — which can fit up to 22 riders and is handicap-accessible and heated — will begin and end the holiday light tours in the parking lot of the McPherson Museum at 1111 E. Kansas Ave.
"It's really fun. We decorate the inside of the trolley, as well," Regnier said.
Tours will take between 45 minutes to an hour from start to finish. In between stops, riders can answer holiday trivia questions to win prizes. Singing Christmas carols is also encouraged.
No one goes away empty-handed; there are treats for every holiday light tour rider.
McPherson Holiday Light Trolley Tours tickets are $5 per person and must be purchased in advance at 1111 E. Kansas Ave.
"Tickets are going fast. Don't wait until the last minute," Regnier urged.
Tickets for the McPherson Holiday Light Trolley Tours can be placed on hold for 48 hours by calling the McPherson CVB at 620-241-3340.
