Six members of the McPherson High School KAY Club attended the Area 6 KAY Regional Conference on Nov. 1 at Kapun Mt. Carmel.
The club received the Gold Award, recognizing their student leadership and service to their school, community, nation and world for the 2016-2017 school year.
Members attending include Brianna Bradley, Josie Strathman, Evelyn Manresa, Laiken Hein, Bryson McCaleb and Maggie Leaf. Accompanying the group was Emilea Harlin, the club’s sponsor.
The KAY program is a character-building, leadership-training, service organization directed by the Kansas State High School Activities Association and is designed for all students in grades six through 12.
KAY is a nationally acclaimed organization unique to Kansas that provides Kansas students an opportunity to assume their citizenship responsibilities and enrich their personalities through well organized programs.
The theme for the 2017 regional conference was “Set Sail... lead-yer-ship!” This conference affords opportunities for student leaders and sponsors from neighboring clubs to share successes and challenges, as well as exchange ideas. Sessions in leadership training and organizational skills are also offered. These conferences inspire delegates to return to their clubs to challenge their local members.
