Cleo Wanita Griffiths, 93, passed away at 2:46 p.m. Nov. 19, 2017 peacefully, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson.
Cleo was born in Stockville, Nebraska on Feb. 11, 1924, a daughter of Lillian Elma (Claflin) and Cecil Cloyd Schultz.
Throughout the years Cleo attended elementary school in Brush, Colorado, and Dickens, Nebraska graduating from Curtis Ag. High School, Curtis, Nebraska. She then received her teaching degree from The University of Nebraska Ag. School, Curtis, Nebraska.
She was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses McPherson, and was a former member in North Platte, Nebraska and currently a member of the Hutchinson Hall.
Through the years Cleo taught in a one room school house, was a homemaker and she took great pride in providing for her family in this manner. She also worked at JC Penney’s in Sidney, Nebraska. She was a piano and organ teacher for over 45 years teaching in North Platte, as well as Sidney, Nebraska, and McPherson.
Cleo enjoyed teaching and playing piano, reading My Book of Bible Stories to her grandchildren, was an artist, wrote poetry, and a talented seamstress. Her entire family would travel around Nebraska and Kansas playing at different dance halls in her younger years.
Cleo W. Schultz was united in marriage to Virgil Dale Griffiths on Dec. 24, 1942 at North Platte, Nebraska. Virgil passed away on Oct. 9, 2001.
She is survived by her children, Rodney L. Griffiths and his wife Mary Lou, of McAllen, Texas, Sharlene F. Schroeder, of Windom, and Shellie Y. Griffiths, of Hutchinson; her sisters, Garnet Dixon and her husband Joe, of Carson, California and Virginia Lee Workman, of Boise, Idaho; her six grandchildren, Darin M. Thrash (Michelle Thompson), Tracey Werries (Darin), Dustin Schroeder (Laura Parks), Tiffany Holler (Sean Balke), T.J. Schroeder (Hayley), Jordan Schroeder; her 20 great-grandchildren; her five great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Cecil C., and Lillian E. Schultz; her husband Virgil Dale Griffiths; her brothers, Orville “Bill”, Milford “Peanut”, and Winston Leonard “Winnie” Schultz.
Friends are invited to call from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 26 at Glidden - Ediger Chapel.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 27 at Glidden - Ediger Chapel, McPherson with Minister Dan Northrup officiating.
Burial will be in the McPherson Cemetery, McPherson.
