Floyd Joe Bell, 65, of McPherson, passed away at 7:05 p.m. Nov. 20, 2017 suddenly, at McPherson Hospital.
Floyd was born in Hays on Aug. 20, 1952, a son of Shirley Mae (Sullivan) and Maynard Floyd Bell.
Floyd attended the Morland grade school and graduated from Morland High School, Morland in 1970. He then attended Colby Junior College, Colby, Central Christian College, McPherson, where he graduated with honors and attended Oral Roberts University, Tulsa, Oklahoma.
He attended the Assembly of God in Morland. While he was in McPherson he was a member of the New Life Four Square Gospel Church and later Word of Faith Fellowship. No matter where he lived he made a priority of attending church. Floyd also spent several months in India as a Missionary through the Word of Faith Fellowship.
He honorably served in the U.S. Army as a SP4 during the Cold War Era. He earned the Sharpshooter (Rifle) badge. Floyd was a parts specialist and assigned to HHC 502d S&T Bn 2d Armd Div FORSCOM Fort Hood, Texas.
Through the years Floyd worked for A to Z Inventory of Denver, Colorado, Sierra Mobile Home Factory in McPherson as an assembler, assembler for Hesston Corporation, Hesston, worked harvests for Floyd Klassen, was a mechanic for Vern Winters Automotive, drove school bus for USD 418, McPherson, was a taxi driver and later a truck driver both of Topeka.
Floyd enjoyed fishing, hunting, reading, playing cards and games, loved sports especially the Dallas Cowboys, the holidays and when the whole family got together.
Floyd Joe Bell was united in marriage to Vickie Jean Goeltz on May 5, 1973 at the First Christian Church, McPherson. The young couple established their first home together in McPherson.
He is survived by his daughters, Kristi Clark and her husband Jeremy, of Manhattan, Kansas and Kimberly Lawson and her husband Scott, of South Beloit, Illinois; his siblings, Pamela “Pam” Postier and her husband Richard, of McPherson, and Martin Bell and his wife Nancy, of McPherson; his four grandchildren, Alexis Lane Clark, Alaina Lynn Clark, Zoe Nichole “Skylar” Phillips, and Ian McKay Phillips; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Floyd was preceded in death by his parents, Shirley and Maynard Bell; brothers, Noel L. “Pete” Bell, and Danny Bell.
Friends are invited to call from 4 to 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 24 at Glidden - Ediger Chapel, McPherson.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 25 at Morland City Cemetery, Morland, with Pastor Lyn Reynolds officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks and they can be sent in care of the Glidden-Ediger Funeral Home; 222 W. Euclid St.; McPherson, Kansas.
