Hospice and HomeCare of Reno County has scheduled the third annual Tinsel & Tears event for 2 to 4 p.m. on Dec. 3 in the lower level conference rooms at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center for Reno County children (kindergarten through high school) who are dealing with the death of a loved one.
Millie Brooks, Social Worker, said the holiday season is often perceived as a time for celebrations and parties and may be a difficult time to grieve for those who have experienced a loss.
“It is important that those dealing with a loss should know that they are not alone in their grief journey and that it is permissible to navigate the holidays in a way to fit their individual needs,” Brooks said.
This event will start with a short combined meeting with the children and their parents. This will be followed by holiday grief activities with the children and discussions with peers who have experienced a similar loss.
Parents will participate in separate discussions on ways to navigate the holidays without their loved one and how best to support their children as they grieve through this time of year while surrounded by celebrations and family gatherings.
The event concludes with refreshments and a special visitor.
The event is free and open to the public. Advance registration is appreciated and interested parties should call 620-665-2473, or register online at hospicerenocounty.com.
