LINDSBORG —On Dec. 2, the Old Mill Museum showcases two area artists as part of Lindsborg’s 2017 Christmas Artists Studio Open House.
Join talented artists Jim Malm and Jenna Mall as they demonstrate woodcarving and ceramics in the museum gallery throughout the day.
Stop in anytime between 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. to visit with the artists as they work. View completed works on display and consider a gift of art for friends or relatives.
The museum will be decorated for the season and visitors are invited to enjoy delicious holiday refreshments. Tour the many exhibits and sign up for door prizes along the way.
Both featured artists bring unique perspectives to these traditional arts. Jim Malm’s woodcarving roots run deep. Born in Lindsborg, artistic endeavors surrounded him. Jim’s grandfather, Swedish-American woodcarver Anton Pearson, provided early inspiration. Countless hours spent in Anton’s Main Street Studio with his father, Norman, also a talented artist, sharpened his skills. Today, Jim carries on the family tradition. He continues carving Norman’s signature Swedish Tomte figures, honoring his father yet making them his own.
Jenna Mall, from Clay Center, never envisioned that she would be formally trained as an artist. In high school she discovered photography and graphic arts, opening new possibilities. She found her love of ceramics while a student at Bethany College in Lindsborg. She likes the physicality of putting things together then taking a step back to take a look. Jenna shares both her hand building ceramics techniques and inspiring designs with visitors at this special event.
