Harlan Shogren will celebrate his 90th birthday with a reception hosted by his children and grandchildren. The celebration will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Jan. 6 at the Messiah Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall in Lindsborg.
Harlan was born Jan. 5, 1928 in Lindsborg to Howard and Bernice Shogren.
He worked for Train Construction while attending high school and Bethany College. In World War II, he joined the U.S. Navy.
Harlan is a graduate of Bethany College and taught school in Gaylord, Kansas, Canton and Salina South Junior High School and Salina South High School.
He married Jeanette Anderson on June 2, 1954. They are the parents of Kristin (David) Burki of Overland Park, Brad (Sara) Shogren of Lindsborg, Ron (Angie) Shogren of Lindsborg, Bruce (Velvet) Shogren of Hesston, and Brent Shogren of Winfield. They have nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Upon retirement, Har has kept busy in his workshop doing many projects. For several years, he worked with the Habitat for Humanity program in the building of homes in Lindsborg, McPherson, Galva and Windom. He also helped with the development of the playground in Swensson Park.
