TOWANDA — A heavy dose of Bullpup senior Taylor Robertson was too much or the Thunderbirds in a 62-37 loss in Towanda Friday night.
The loss was the first of the season for the Circle girls.
Roberston shot, drove, dipped and spun to 24 points, two rebounds and three assists. She caught fire early in the second quarter to bolster a 7-2 run to extend the Bullpup lead to 22-11 at the 4:06 mark.
“We struggled making some shots and they got on fire,” Circle head coach Brian Henry said. “They made some threes … Tonight they were on fire from the three point line.”
Robertson finished with five threes. McPherson hit nine in the contest.
Circle transfer junior Alyson Potter carried the Thunderbird offense in the first quarter, scoring all nine first quarter Thunderbird points. McPherson led 15-9 at the end of the first and 31-15 at the half.
Circle made a 5-0 run to end the third quarter down 41-27, but saw that narrowed margin widen with a Bullpup 18-8 run to begin the final stanza.
“We made a run at it there in the third quarter,” Henry said. “ I think we ran out of gas and they just kept on.”
Potter finished with 11 points, five rebounds and one assist. Carissa Beck scored eight points. Kelsie Kelly added eight. Mallory Cowman scored six points and grabbed four rebounds. Raegen Galloway scored two points. Jordan Hammer finished with one point.
Also scoring for McPherson was: Cassie Cooks (nine points, five rebounds), Lakyn Schieferecke (seven points, four rebounds, four assists), Claire Yowell six points, Maggie Leaf four points, Riley Hett three points, Jaycee Burghart three points, Andrea Sweat two points, Grace Pyle two points, Kari Ellet two points.
