MOUNDRIDGE — The Moundridge High School girls basketball team captured a 55-22 win in Tuesday night’s game against the Ell-Saline Cardinals.
The Lady Cats now have a record of 4-4 on the season.
“I feel like after Friday night we needed to bounce back,” head coach Brian Holloway said. “We needed to do it in a defensive way, so the last couple days in practice we have really focused on playing a good solid, hard defense.”
Kochanowski and sophomore Ashton Travis led the Cardinals with six points each.
“I still feel like offensive-wise we need to be a little more patient and figure out a way to make better passes, and to make better cuts,” Holloway said. “As always, we need to be able to finish. I feel like we missed a few easy layups tonight that we have to have.”
Moundridge took a strong lead in the first quarter, with several free-throws and easy bunny shots, ending it with a score of 16-7.
With the Cats up by 20 points in the second quarter, senior Kassidy Kaufman passed the ball to sophomore Hailey Unruh for an easy layup.
Opening the second half with a score of 32-10, Stucky swiped the ball from Ell-Saline senior Lexi Kochanowski, taking advantage of an open layup.
The score at the end of third quarter was 47-16.
Junior Kalea Helms led the Wildcats with four 3-pointers and 12 total points. Senior Bethany Stucky added 10 points, and Unruh had nine.
The Moundridge girls will travel to Sedgwick on Friday.
