BURRTON — The No. 4 team in Class 2A was on the ropes Saturday in the championship game of the Burrton Invitational, but Berean Academy was able to edge Little River High School, 57-46.

Little River raced to a 16-9 lead before Berean responded with a 17-6 run in the second quarter. While Berean never pulled away, they were able to keep a slight lead to remain undefeated.

“The boys played their tails off and lost to a really good, and displaced, team from Berean Academy,” Little River head coach Chad Lafferty said. “Anytime you play Berean you know they aren’t going to hurt themselves, and you will have to play extended periods of defense because they are going to take good, quality shots. I thought the boys stepped up their level of play every night and our seniors brought defensive intensity, which carried over to our younger guys stepping up their level of play as well.”

Jayden Garrison and Levi Swenson, who scored 16 and 12 points respectively, were named to the Burrton Invitational All-Tournament Team.

Little River is next in action on Tuesday when they host Goessel.
