PITTSBURG, Kan. — The McPherson College track and field teams set one school record and posted a handful of personal-best marks at Saturday's Pittsburg State Invitational.
The meet served as the squads' final tune-up before next weekend's Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) Championships, which will also be held at the Robert W. Plaster Center on the Pitt State campus.
Ane' Archuleta (Sacramento, Calif., American River College) achieved a PR in the 800 with a time of 2:28.52. Converted to 2:30.23 due to the oversized 300-meter Harvey Dean Track at the Plaster Center, the mark also eclipsed the school record of 2:30.53 posted by Tiffany Poet in 2008.
A trio of Bulldog sprinters also posted PRs in the women's 60-meter dash. Diamond Blaylock-Norris (Flower Mound, Texas, University of Alabama) and Miaya Sample (Houston, Texas, Barbers Hill HS) registered matching times of 8.26, while Cierra Lee (Goodyear, Ariz., Estrella Foothills HS) stopped the clock in 8.37 seconds. Samantha Nelson (Clearfield, Utah, Weber State University) added a PR in the 3,000 with an 11:59.98 clocking.
For the McPherson men, Amari Heisser (Palmdale, Calif., Quartz Hill HS) set a new personal best in the 60 hurdles with a time of 8.63 seconds, just 0.01 seconds off the school record of 8.62 set by Jordan King in 2007.
Hunter Sury (Katy, Texas, Katy HS) posted a pair of sub-7.0 times in the 60 dash (6.93, 6.99) and posted a new PR in the 200 with a 22.31 clocking.
Xavier Taylor (Waynesville, Mo., Waynesville HS) and Jack Stalcup (Hugoton, Kan., IMG Academy) also recorded PRs in the 60 dash with times of 7.14 and 7.32, respectively.
Casey Zimmerman (Allen, Texas, Allen HS) posted an indoor PR in the 800, recording the Bulldogs' best finish in terms of place Saturday with a sixth-place time of 1:58.44.
In the throws, Abel Villarreal (Harlingen, Texas, Harlingen South HS) came within an inch of matching a personal best with a toss of 12.79 meters (41-11 1/2) in the weight throw.
The Bulldogs return to Pittsburg and the Plaster Center on Friday, February 2, for the opening day of the KCAC Indoor Track and Field Championships. The McPherson men are the defending champions.
