After a win over Andale High School, the McPherson High School bowling team has been selected as the Great Plains Federal Credit Union McPherson County Team of the Week.

Starting with the boys team, the Bullpups were led by junior Matt Stiggins, who bowled a perfect game for the first time in school history. For Stiggins, it was the first time in his bowling career to bowl a perfect 300.

Prior to this record, Stiggins’ career-best was a 288, which he made in his freshman year. Since then, he’s been trying to top that number but fell just short to beating it. Thanks to Stiggins’ perfect game, the boys team swept Andale 2,549-2,026 and remains undefeated this season.

“It feels pretty good. I’ve been trying for a long time the whole way,” Stiggins said. “I just kept my mind clean, took it nice and slow and kept calm.”

The girls team was also victorious after sweeping the Indians 1,665-1,449. McPherson’s head coach Herb Halinski has been impressed by his girls team, knowing that some of them have only just started bowling.

“We have three girls that are new to bowling and they’re just doing an outstanding job,” Halinski said.

After facing both Augusta High School and Kapaun Mt. Carmel High School at Wichita on Tuesday, the Bullpups will travel to face El Dorado High School.
