CANTON-GALVA — The Canton/Galva boys and girls basketball teams hosted Centre on Tuesday and split the two games, as the Lady Eagles scored a 46-43 victory, while the Eagle boys suffered a 63-28 loss.

For the Lady Eagles, it was a close game early when they held a three-point advantage after one quarter of play but then took a 13-point lead at 27-14, into the halftime break. After holding onto to a 14-point, 34-20, advantage heading into the fourth quarter, Canton/Galva withheld a 23-point Centre barrage in the final quarter to gain the three-point win.

Sophomore Tia Moddelmog led the Lady Eagle offensive attack with 16 points, while freshman Alexa Bell also reached double digits with 12. Ten of Moddelmog’s 16 points came from the free throw line.

As for the Eagle boys, Centre jumped out early to a 20-5 first quarter lead and never looked back, extending their advantage to 19 at 38-19 heading into the break. Centre never let up as they rolled on to the 35-point victory.

Sophomore Kinser Colgin was the lone Eagle to reach double figures as he led the offense with 12 points, while sophomore Nick Pearson came close with nine.

Next up for the two Eagle teams will be on Friday, February 16, when they travel to cross-county rival Moundridge.
