Elvin Glen Bacon, son of Glen and Beulah (Keffer) Bacon, was born on Feb. 12, 1929, in McPherson. He was the oldest of the three children in his family. On Feb. 18, 2018, Elvin passed away at The Cedars and went to his heavenly home after a short battle with lung cancer. He was 89.

Elvin attended Roosevelt Grade School, McPherson Junior High School, Central Academy High School, and one year at Central College.

Elvin was married to Vivian Dickerson on April 17, 1948, in Cashion, Oklahoma. This union was blessed with two daughters, Jean LaVon and Diane Yvonne, and one son, Darrell Glen. He married Donna Keith on Dec. 19, 1975, in McPherson and added one step-daughter, Donna Kay, and one step-son, David.

He worked at Sid Bacon Motor Company as an auto mechanic and retired from NCRA Refinery where he worked as a pump mechanic. He also served four years in the National Guard. Elvin was a lifetime member of the McPherson Free Methodist Church and member of McPherson Craftsman for Christ.

Survivors include: his wife, Donna, his daughters, Jean Stevenson and husband, JR, of Newton, and Diane Parrish and husband, Wayne, of McPherson; his son, Darrell Bacon and wife, Stephanie, of McPherson; step-daughter, Donna Kay Keith of McPherson; eight grandchildren, Valerie Bonham (Ed), Joshua Phillips (Tiffany), Nick Hutchinson (Hayley), Todd Jetton (Sabrina), David Parrish, Philip Parrish (Traci), Mark Bacon (Jackie), and Adam Bacon; two step-grandchildren, Rena Hilty and Amber Buss; 14 great-grandchildren, Kara Wright, Aaron Wright, Jordan Phillips, Katelyn Phillips, Evander Hutchinson, Miles Jetton, Mia Jetton, Collin Parrish, Bailey White, Avrey Parrish, Emory Parrish, Cade Bacon, Ellie Bacon, and Owen Bacon and one on the way; six step-great-grandchildren, Darien Keith, Eva Shore, Jaydon Hilty, Bailey Keough, Jasmine Bledsoe, and Schayla Bledsoe; sister, Elsie Sheriff (John) of North Newton; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Elvin was preceded in death by his parents; brother and sister-in-law, Dean and June Bacon; and step-son, David Keith.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 21, at Stockham Family Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m.

The memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 22, at McPherson Free Methodist Church with the Rev. Tom Griffith officiating. In accordance with the deceased’s wishes, his body was bequeathed to the University of Kansas School of Medicine. Inurnment will take place in McPherson Cemetery at a later date.
