WICHITA — McPherson College sophomore Christie Betker (Reno, Nev., Reno HS) has been named the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) Softball Pitcher of the Week for the week of Feb. 12-18, the conference office announced Tuesday.
Betker pitched in three of four games as McPherson split a weekend series at Oklahoma Panhandle State University.
She opened the weekend with seven strikeouts in a 3-0 complete-game victory Saturday afternoon, then K'd 10 while allowing one unearned run in an 11-1, 5-inning win in Sunday's first game. Betker was used in relief in Sunday's second game, throwing the final 4.1 innings and striking out four in a 14-13 loss.
Her 21 strikeouts over the weekend pushed her career total to 191, tops on McPherson's all-time list.
The old mark of 190 was originally set by Katie Logan (2009-12) and tied by current Bulldog Sydney Lang (2016-present) at the Cowtown Classic last weekend.
Kansas Wesleyan University junior outfielder Taylor LaGrange was named the KCAC Softball Player of the Week after hitting .600 with two doubles, a triple and seven RBIs in four games last week.
The two student-athletes were selected for their performances by a vote of conference sports information directors.
