Junior L. “Jay” Fortner, 85, of McPherson, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Feb. 26, 2018 at The Cedars, McPherson.
He was born on May 3, 1932 in Canton, the son of Earl B. and Inez (White) Fortner. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
On Nov. 24, 1953 he was united in marriage to Joan Thomas in Canton. They were blessed with two children, Ron and Sandra.
Junior worked for NCRA as a heavy equipment operator for over 40 years. After retirement he enjoyed playing pool with his buddies at the McPherson Senior Center, hunting and fishing, memorizing scripture and attending auctions. He loved his family and cherished the time spent with them.
He was a member of Countryside Covenant Church, McPherson.
Survivors include his wife, Joan of McPherson; one son, Ron (Charlene) Fortner, Valley Center; one daughter, Sandy (Mike) Alkire, McPherson; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three brothers-in-law, Wayne Wilson, Hutchinson, Larry (Patsy) Thomas, Destin, Florida and Don (Karen) Thomas, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; sisters in law, Judy Thomas, Canton and Heidi Thomas, Centennial, Colorado.
He was preceded in death by two brothers-in-law, Kenneth and Robert and a sister, Pauline Wilson.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 2 at Countryside Covenant Church, McPherson. Private family interment preceded the service.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established with The Jesus Film, in care of Olson’s Mortuary, Canton.
