LINDSBORG — The Smoky Valley High School boys basketball team punched their ticket to state for the third straight season after winning the Class 4A Division II sub-state championship over Chapman High School 66-53 on Saturday.
The Vikings put up a strong performance in the fourth quarter by outscoring Chapman 24-11. Four players for the Vikings finished the game in double figures. Both Jacob Adams and Brett Heitschmidt tied for 15 points a piece. Nick Reinert followed up with 14 and Ben Weldy with 12.
At 14-7, the Vikings hold the No. 7 seed and will face the No. 2 seed Andale High School at 3 p.m. on Thursday. The winner will move on to the semi-finals to face either third-ranked Marysville High School or Topeka Hayden High School at 4:45 p.m. on Friday. The game will take place at the White Auditorium in Emporia.
