GALVA — Two people were killed and one person was critically injured in a two-vehicle crash.

At 8:50 p.m. on March 8, emergency personnel responded to a traffic incident at US Highway 56 and 23rd Avenue, two miles east of Galva. The crash closed both lanes of the highway.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a Ford pickup truck driven by 57-year-old Timothy Kersten of Hillsboro was eastbound on US Highway 56. For unknown reason, the truck crossed center lane into the path of a westbound SUV, driven by 34-year-old Abby McIntosh of Galva. The vehicles collided head-on on the westbound shoulder. Both drivers were killed.

A 13-year-old passenger in the SUV was taken to Wesley Medical Center in critical condition. The driver of the SUV was not wearing a seat belt, the 13-year-old passenger was. The KHP could not determine if the pickup truck driver had a seat belt on.
