LINDSBORG — Nathan J. Woodard is the Lindsborg Kiwanis Club 2018 “Kiwanian of the Year.”
Kiwanis Awards Committee chairperson John Palmquist, as part of the awards ceremony, stated: Nathan ‘Nate’ Woodard became a member of Lindsborg Kiwanis Club on Dec. 10, 2009, and since then he has become an indispensable member in many ways — working behind the scenes, volunteering for many Kiwanis projects, service opportunities, filling in for officers during absences, fulfilling committee responsibilities, currently serving on the Kiwanis Board, and in general just being an energetic and fun-filled Kiwanian. He also is a volunteer when needed at Bethany College, Bethany Lutheran Church and in the Lindsborg community.
A native of Beaumont and Port Neches, Texas, Nate graduated from Port Neches High School in 1963 and he attended Bethany College from 1963 through 1966.
He served in the U.S. Army from October 1966 to December 1971, as a First Lieutenant for Air Defense Artillery, including time in Germany.
Returning to Bethany College in 1969, he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business administration in December 1971. His professional careers have included Special Agent for Criminal Investigation Division of the IRS in Des Moines, Iowa from 1972 to 1994, and a professional locksmith from 1995 to 2008. He now is retired.
Nate’s parents were J.Q. Woodard, a Southern Baptist minister and music educator, and Alice Woodard, organist and piano teacher. His siblings are Alice (deceased 2016, and married to brother-in-law Ron Johnson); Joel Woodard (married to Freda Patrick); and Marsha (married to Ron Rolander).
Nate’s children are Joe Woodard, a stockbroker, and Katie Engelhardt an audiologist. Nate has four grandchildren.
He returned to live in Lindsborg in February 2009. Nate and Cynthia (Hoffman) Woodard were married Jan. 14, 2012, and they live four miles southeast of Lindsborg.
