BUHLER — The McPherson High School softball team took down Buhler High School 13-8 and 19-7.

Game One, 13-8

The Lady Pups had a rocky start, but they took off and put up 12 runs in the third to give McPherson a 12-5 lead. Taylor Bruce had an outstanding performance after going 8-for-8 at bat, two base-on-balls, and seven runs. Bailea Crist also had a solid game after she went 6-for-9 and hit a home run.

"Defensively, we had moments of brilliance and moments of mayhem. We like to turn one error into three. We have to learn to take care of the ball, know when to eat it, and get the ball back to the circle. We also need to believe in our ability and grow our confidence in positions,” said head coach Danica Fitzmorris.

Despite giving up 10 hits, Addie Fitzmorris had nine strikeouts on the circle and three BBs.

Game Two, 19-7

In game two, the Bullpups picked up where they left off when they put up 19 runs in 25 hits over Buhler. The Lady Pups had 16 runs in the first the three innings. It was a dominating night for McPherson offensively.

"I was really proud of our offense. Our base running could have been better, I think we had three times tonight we either got picked off or doubled off after a line drive," Fitzmorris said.

Crist started at pitcher for the McPherson. It wasn't her best night as she gave up 14 hits, six runs, and five errors. However, she held it down for all five innings and managing the game defensively.

“Christ did a great job keeping the ball down. She pitched to contact and most balls were on the ground where our defense had a better chance of getting hitters out. I was really happy with how she worked the zone,” Fitzmorris said.

The Lady Pups will focus on their next road game as they will travel to face Winfield High School on at 4 p.m. on April 5.
