WINFIELD — The McPherson High School baseball team traveled to Winfield High School Thursday night and split the series against the Vikings. They are 4-2 of the year.

Game one 3-1

The Bullpups weren’t able to get an offense going as they went scoreless in five innings.

Winfield’s starting pitcher Traiton Suttles struck out McPherson seven times and they finished game one with two hits. The Bullpups only run came in the top of the sixth by Zane Myers' RBI hit that took Dylan Werries. It wasn't enough as the Vikings shut them down defensively after having three runs earlier in the game.

Game two 13-12

Game two became more of an offensive shootout, but this time the Bullpups won.

There were three lead changes throughout the game. The Bullpups had early 5-run lead in the first half and four more in the next two innings to make it 9-6. It was in the sixth inning that Winfield scored four runs to give them their first lead of the night. The Bullpups gained back the lead by scoring three more runs to make 13-11. Zane Myers led the team with three hits and two RBIs. Dylan Werries was on the mound in game two, and despite giving up 11 hits, he recorded eight strikeouts in the Bullpups’ win.

The Bullpups will have their first home opener against Andale-Garden Plain High School at 4 p.m. on April 9.
