Marion came to town on Friday and the Canton/Galva High softball team sent them home with a split of a doubleheader as the Lady Eagles took game one 8-5 before Marion salvaged game two 9-6.

Both teams scored twice in the first and once in the second innings before the Lady Eagles took a one run lead in the bottom of the third.

Marion pushed across a score in the fourth, but then Canton/Galva knocked across two runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings to score the first game 8-5 victory.

Jayci Mastre and Ashton Brewer led the Lady Eagle offense with three hits each, while Alex Koehn and Taylor Everett each had two as Canton-Galva smacked out 15 hits for the game. Brewer, Everett, Carissa Klatt and Emily Peterson each had doubles, while Mastre pounded out a triple.

The Lady Eagles also stole 11 bases when they got on base.

Brewer went the whole game on the mound while getting seven strikeouts and the win.

Canton-Galva held a 5-2 lead going into the top of the fifth inning, when Marion poured across four runs, then added two in the sixth and another in the seventh to gain the 9-6 victory and the split of the doubleheader.

Brewer continued to be powerful at the plate by smacking out four of the teams 18 hits, while Alex Koehn and Taylor Everett added three.

Getting two hits were Jayci Mastre and Carissa KIatt. Mastre made both her hits count as they were both doubles. Everett and Klatt also hit doubles.

With the split of the two games, the Lady Eagles are now 5-10-1 on the season as they prep to finish off the 2018 season on Tuesday at Inman.
