COLORADO — David Rex Shields, 60, of Delta, Colorado, passed away at 7:05 a.m., Jan. 17th, 2018 peacefully, at Horizons Care Center, Eckert, Colorado.

David was born in Wichita, on March 12, 1957, a son of Lois Colleen (Bowman) and George Henry Shields.

David attended Washington Elementary School, Park School, and McPherson High School in, McPherson, and graduated from West High School, Wichita.

He was a member of Seventh Day Adventists.

Through the years David worked for Sir Roberts, McPherson, Davis Moore as a car salesman, Wichita, Affordable Auto’s, Ruthaford Painting, Wichita, and then became self employed at Paint Masters as a interior and exterior painter in Colorado for several years.

David was a member of the Boy Scouts Troop in McPherson.

David enjoyed woodworking wood carving, camping, fishing, treasure hunting, panning for gold, the mountains in Colorado, photography, his husky dogs, astronomy, his friends and family.

David R. Shields was married to Jo Whiteside in Wichita, in 1980. This union was blessed with the birth of three children, one daughter and two sons, Jessica, Adam and Brandon.

He is survived by his children Jessica Nellis and her husband Phil, of Wichita, Adam Divine, of El Dorado, Brandon Divine, of Arizona; his sisters Kathleen Darrah and her husband Phil, of McPherson, Debbie Smith and her husband Tom, of McPherson, and David’s grandson Noah Keene Divine.

David was preceded in death by his parents.

There will be a private family service at a later date.

A private family burial will be at the Lincolnville Cemetery, Lincolnville, Kansas at a later date.
