MOUNDRIDGE — Jim H. Goering, 60, passed away May 6, 2018, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Lawrence. He was born Jan. 21, 1958, at Mercy Hospital in Moundridge.
He was the son of Melvern and Erma (Buller) Goering. He grew up in the Eden Mennonite Church in Moundridge, and was a member of Hope Mennonite Church in Wichita. After a cherished childhood on the farm in rural Galva, Jim graduated from Bethel College in 1980 with a BA in history. He married Ruthie Gehring, his Moundridge High School sweetheart, on Aug. 9, 1980. He attended Harvard Law School, earning his J.D. in 1983. After graduation, Jim and Ruthie returned to Wichita and he joined the law firm of Foulston Siefkin where he continued his distinguished legal career for 34 years.
Jim is survived by: his wife, Ruthie, of Valley Center; sons, John, of Valley Center, and Jeremy, of Overland Park; brother, Dick (Hope) Goering of Cedar Falls, Iowa; brother-in-law, Bryan Otte of Moundridge; seven nieces and nephews; and four great-nieces; as well as many beloved in-laws, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mel and Erma Goering, and his sister, Cindy Otte.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 11, 2018, at Eden Mennonite Church, rural Moundridge. Visitation will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 10, 2018, also at the Eden Mennonite Church. In lieu of flowers, family suggests memorial gifts to Mennonite SNAP or Bethel College. Gifts may be sent in care of the Moundridge Funeral Home.
