Judy A. Pennington, 77, of McPherson, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2018, surrounded by family at her home. She operated a daycare in her home for over 15 years before retiring in 2010. Prior to that, she worked for USD 418 as a Para, at Sanofi Winthrop in the cafeteria, Drakes Salad Bar as manager, and as an Avon representative.
Judy was born on March 31, 1941, in St. Joseph, Missouri, the daughter of James R. and Imogene L. (Frazee) Burns. Her family moved to McPherson from St. Joseph, Missouri in 1951 when she was ten years old where she attended the McPherson schools. Judy was united in marriage to Don Pennington, Sr. on July 15, 1962, in McPherson.
She was a life member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary Post #2715. Judy loved spending time in her flower gardens and cooking new recipes.
Survivors include: her husband of 55 years, Don, Sr. of the home; three children, Don Pennington, Jr. of McPherson, Danny Pennington and wife, Darlene, of Castle Rock, Washington, and Kristi Schrader and husband, Andy, of McPherson; five grandchildren, Rylee and Drew Schrader of McPherson, Jessica (Pennington) Hutchinson of Kalama, Washington, Diana Pennington of Hoover, Alabama, and Erica Pennington of Castle Rock, Washington; two great-grandchildren, Aubrey and Myla Hutchinson; one step-great-grandchild, Colby Hutchinson; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; sister, Sharon G. Palmer; and brother, James E. Burns.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, May 16, 2018, at Stockham Family Funeral Home with family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, May 17, at Countryside Covenant Church with Rev. Jon Black officiating followed by a luncheon at the church. A graveside service will be at 1 p.m., May 17, at McPherson Cemetery.
