McPHERSON — McPherson Police and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation are seeking the public’s help in learning more details about a shooting that left a 22-year-old man dead just after midnight at the Mustang Mobile Park.

The police have no suspects. The victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification of his family, County Attorney Greg Benefiel, said. He said he anticipated additional information about the case, including the man’s identity, will be released today. Anyone with any information about this incident is urged to contact the McPherson Police Department as soon as possible at 620-245-1200.

Officers responded to reports of shots fired at about 12:25 a.m., McPherson Police Chief Robert McClarty said during a police briefing this morning. When they reached the 400 block of Dales Draw they found the body of a deceased white male in his mid-20s.

“The KBI were called and are assisting us as we speak,” McClarty said.

An autopsy is expected to be conducted at the Regional Forensic Center in Wichita.

A witness, who did not wish to be identified, said she and her son awoke to gunshots.

“It was like... pop, pop, pop, three times,” she said. She said they went outside and looked, but couldn’t see anything and called police — this morning they found their peaceful street had become a crime scene.

“It’s devastating. You think you live in a safe neighborhood and then this happens. I hope they figure out what happened.”
