The commissioners voted to prohibit parking on several streets in McPherson. They are as follows:

• On the west side of Walnut Street from 1st Street to 6th Street.

• On the east and west sides of Foxfire Street and, from there, north to Cochise on only the west side.

• On the east and west sides of Thunderbird Street and, from there, north to Cochise on only the east side.

The change was made at the request from the McPherson Police Department and letters were sent to homeowners on all involved streets.

Jeff Woodward, with the McPherson City public work’s department, said the city has had several complaints that there is not enough room for emergency vehicles to get down the street when cars are parked there.

“That’s what drove the issue,” he said.

He said he hopes the move will provide adequate access for emergency vehicles as well as normal traffic.

“We have a lot of streets in the city right now where there is parking on only one side of the street due to the width.”
